Ellen Exum is Director, Health Benefits & Health Promotion for IBM Corporation in Armonk NY, the world’s top provider of computer products and services with over 430,000 employees in more than 100 countries. 2012 revenues were in excess of $104 billion. Her role includes overseeing and leading health and welfare benefits and health promotion design and strategy for the IBM community (active and retired and their dependents) in over 100 countries around the world.

Prior to joining IBM, Ellen was the Director, Benefits/Global Wellness of PepsiCo, where she was responsible for developing the Company's global strategic employee health management and wellness goals and translating them into clearly defined initiatives to impact the health and lifestyle risks of 300,000 employees worldwide while at work and at home. In this position, Ellen was the recipient of National Business Group on Health’s (NBGH) Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles Platinum Award in three different years (2012, 2010, 2009).

Ellen was formerly Director of Compensation and Benefits for Randstad (formerly Spherion Corporation), where she had oversight responsibility for health, two retirement plans, and compensation where she introduced new performance metrics and innovative sourcing strategies. In this role, Ellen was the recipient of an industry award for the online benefits communications system she introduced.

She was previously employed by Starwood Vacation Ownership Inc. as manager of benefits, and by Tupperware Corporation as a senior benefits and compensation analyst. Exum started her career as a managed care specialist for Southern New England Telephone.

Exum is a cum laude graduate of Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut, where she majored in business economics.

With over 20 years of experience gained in the trenches of HR program development and management, Exum has shared her expertise in areas such as wellness initiative, benefits communication, program benchmarking and metrics at a number of industry forums. In addition to having served on various national, regional, and local committees and boards, including those sponsored by the World Economic Forum and the National Business Group on Health, Ellen has coauthored several published studies including: Population Health Management, v. 16, no. 1, Feb. 2013, p. 1-6, Health Affairs, v. 33, no. 1, Jan. 2014, p. 124-131, Inquiry May 2013 vol. 50 no. 2 150-158 and Rand Research Briefs.

Ellen E. Exum will be presenting with Dr. Hangsheng Liu on the topic “Use Corporate Wellness Programs to Rein in Healthcare Costs: Successful Stories and Strategies.” This session will cover how Corporate wellness is a $6 billion dollar industry in the United States, fueled by expectations that wellness programs can reduce healthcare costs substantially.
