American Green Technology® Donates HRMS to Elkhart, Indiana Family

South Bend, IN, August 25, 2014 --(PR.com)-- HRMS installed in customized family home built for daughter with Type 1 Spinal Muscular Atrophy

This August the 2nd, Ella Hunt turns 3 years old. For most children turning 3 might not be such a milestone, but it is for Ella who at 4 ½ months old, was diagnosed with type 1 Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). SMA is the number one genetic killer of children under the age of 2. SMA affects the motor neurons of the spinal cord and brain stem. These critically important cells are responsible for supplying electrical and chemical messages to the muscles. Without the proper input from the motor neurons, muscles can’t function properly and begin to atrophy.

It is estimated that SMA occurs in between 1-in-6,000 and 1-in-20,000 births. There are no problems with sensation of the face, arms or legs. Intelligence is unaffected, and in fact many physicians who have worked with hundreds of children with SMA are impressed that these children tend to be unusually alert, interactive and socially gifted. With type 1 SMA, the most severe form of the disease, symptoms are present before the age of six months and these children never acquire the power, the strength and the endurance to sit independently, to crawl or to walk. The greatest threat to the lives of children like Ella are respiratory complications.

That is where Gordon Norquist, local chapter member of the Parrot Heads of Michiana, and a Corporate Officer for American Green Technology® (AGT) has stepped in with an innovative new technology that could make a difference for Ella’s family. “When I met Erica Hunt, Ella’s mother, and she told us her story, I knew immediately that our Health Risk Management System (HRMS) would be a perfect solution to help her family,” said Gordon. “The HRMS is clinically proven to eliminate 99.7% of pathogens and disinfects the air, creating cleaner air for Ella to breathe. AGT was happy to donate the HRMS and be a part of helping the Hunt family and Ella.”

For children afflicted with type 1 SMA, the common cold can be the difference between life and death. Erica was ecstatic when she learned how the HRMS works. “I was thrilled when I first heard about the system. During cold and flu season, we have to be so vigilant. We wear masks, wash our hands constantly and even quarantine our sons Carter and Noah whenever they get the slightest sniffles. This system will allow our family a sense of comfort to know there is an extra layer of protection watching over Ella. Knowing that her time is limited, every day becomes a blessing. We can’t thank the kind and generous people of AGT enough.”

The HRMS works by drawing in contaminated air with fans that push the air through a MERV6 filter, passing it through a UVC chamber which operates at 253.7 nanometers, the ideal range for pathogen elimination. The air is then pushed back out of the system through a set of grills at a 30 degree angle to circulate the clean air throughout the room. In a 10 x 10 room with an 8 foot ceiling, the air is exchanged an average of four times per hour. To learn more about the HRMS log onto arcaluxhrms.com.
