Source Molecular Highlights Usefulness of MST in Stormwater Management

Source Molecular Corporation representatives attended the 10th Annual Conference of the California Stormwater Quality Association this month at the Hyatt Orange County, to promote Microbial Source Tracking technology for effective stormwater management.

Orange, CA, September 29, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Source Molecular Corporation’s Mauricio Larenas and Grace Anderson attended the 10th Annual Conference of the California Stormwater Quality Association (CASQA) on Sept. 15-17, 2014, at the Hyatt Orange County.

The theme for this year’s conference was “Urban Stormwater Management: Integrated, Innovative, and Green.” Source Molecular made its presence felt by talking to various speakers, presenters and participants and highlighting the usefulness of microbial source tracking (MST) technology in stormwater management.

Stormwater managers test for fecal bacteria prior to water discharge into water systems. If the stormwater discharge shows high counts of fecal bacteria, this is where Microbial Source Tracking comes in. Microbial Source Tracking is an important tool to identify the source of pollution in the stormwater. Knowing the source allows for more effective allocation of remediation funds to address the problem.

More than 600 people attended the three-day event that was filled with workshops and technical discussions. Over the past 10 years, the CASQA conference has become the key training event for stormwater professionals responding to municipal, industrial and construction NPDES stormwater permit requirements. Next year’s conference will be held at Hyatt Regency Monterey from October 19 to 21, 2015.

Source Molecular’s laboratory continues to work with stakeholders in California and help them identify who is causing the elevated fecal bacteria levels in their lakes, rivers, beaches, etc. Source Molecular currently has the ability to detect fecal pollution from 13 different sources -- Human, Cattle, Swine, Gull, Goose, Chicken, Dog, Deer, Elk, Horse, Bird, Ruminant and Beaver.
