East Lyme, CT, October 01, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Positive Solutions to Real-Life Family Struggles is a parenting teens workshop being presented by psychotherapist Mara Dunn, MSW, on Sunday, October 19 from 7-9 p.m. at Niantic Community Church. A child/youth movie night will run concurrently with the program making an entertaining child care option available for the night.

The program will help give parents a deeper understanding of developmental issues, redefine the parent-teen relationship, and cover modeling communication full of respect, love and understanding. The workshop is intended to help parents gain a deeper understanding of the impact that today’s culture is having on their children. Parents, youth workers, and pastors will learn new ways of engaging with pre-teens and teens and will leave this workshop with new skills and ways to approach the turbulent teen years.

Dunn has a Masters degree in social work, with more than ten years of experience at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital working on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. She specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and is certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, a skill based group for distress tolerance and emotion regulation. She recently opened a private practice in Niantic.

Refreshments will be served. Both events are being sponsored by the NCC Christian Education Committee and Christian Education and Youth Minister, Russ Kirby. The program is free, and all are welcome, but registration is suggested. Niantic Community Church is located at 170 Pennsylvania Avenue, Niantic.
