NAFA's Sustainable Fleet Standard Program Passes Important Milestone

NAFA Fleet Management Association's tool to standardize sustainability practices crosses important development hurdle.

Princeton, NJ, October 02, 2014 --(PR.com)-- NAFA Fleet Management Association and CALSTART have reached a significant milestone in development of the Sustainable Fleet Standard Program tool, with the conclusion of first-wave beta testing and delivery of data from Charter Members. 40 Charter Member organizations have recognized the benefits of what a truly sustainable fleet can be, and are helping to create a solution that guides conscientious organizations to the process for replicating it.

The resulting Sustainable Fleet Standard tool, tentatively projected to be released in the first quarter of 2015, will signify a revolutionary step in how fleets define and adhere to sustainable practices.

“The importance of sustainable practices becomes more evident each day,” said NAFA President Claude T. Masters, CAFM. “By becoming more energy independent and efficient our members will extend benefits to their bottom line and their customer base.”

CALSTART is now compiling the feedback from these first ten participating organizations, developing reports based on their data, and preparing a status update for mid-October. Representatives from the 40 Charter Member organizations are expected to be in attendance for the unveiling of the results. The organizations who comprise wave one include prestigious members of the corporate, government, university, and utility fleet segments.

"This testing and feedback period is crucial to the successful construction of the Sustainable Fleet tool," said NAFA Chief Executive Officer Phillip E. Russo, CAE. "The effectiveness and the validity of this endeavor depend on fleets being able to use the tool successfully, to gauge all the great things it can do for fleets and sustainable practices, and to chart where improvements are needed. This Sustainable Fleet Standard tool is absolutely being proven for value and effectiveness by some of the largest fleets in North America."

Launched in April 2014, NAFA's Sustainable Fleet Standard Program represents a major new step for fleet. “NAFA’s central role in the fleet industry will help this program create a tipping point for sustainable transportation,” said John Boesel, President and CEO of CALSTART. “We’re working with NAFA to make sure the Standard is strong, but easy to use by any fleet, whether just starting out or far down the road on sustainable operations.”

The second wave of participating organizations will begin their work with the Sustainable Fleet Standard tool in late-October, with the final Analysis Team providing review toward the end of 2014. NAFA thanks the following for their effort in this development:
