Record Turnout, Job Openings at Marlborough Works! Job Fair

Attendance, job numbers up from 2013, with newcomers like GE Healthcare and Quest Diagnostics

Marlborough, MA, October 10, 2014 --(PR.com)-- More than 400 job openings at 27 Marlborough companies were on offer at the third annual Marlborough Works! Job Fair held at the Courtyard by Marriott last night. That’s 33% more jobs than in 2013, and four times more than at the fair’s inaugural run in 2012.

Attendance also grew by 25%, with just over 500 jobseekers coming out to apply for the open positions and meet with company recruiters.

Big newcomers, like GE Healthcare, Quest Diagnostics, SanDisk, and IPG Photonics were searching for qualified applicants alongside returning top employers, like Boston Scientific, Ken’s Foods, Marlborough Hospital and Weetabix. Joining them were a number of other local companies representing various industries, including healthcare, biotech, manufacturing, defense, hospitality, retail, education, banking, sales and marketing, and alternative energy.

The free event, organized by the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), in conjunction with Employment and Training Resources (ETR), is part of the City Council’s and Mayor Arthur Vigeant’s annual initiative to increase local employment. The Mayor, who was onsite to meet and greet participants, said the presence of large new companies and the increase in job opportunities is a testament to the strength and growth of the Marlborough economy.

“This year’s job fair surpassed all my expectations,” said Mayor Vigeant. ”The strength of our local business community and the high caliber of our area residents was on full display. I look forward to continuing my work with the City Council and MEDC to recruit even more businesses and new opportunities to out city.”

“The numbers tell the story,” said City Councilor Don Landers, who was also in attendance. “The arrival of new companies to the city has definitely helped the Marlborough job market grow.”

“When new companies move to Marlborough, they expect to find qualified people to fill their job openings,” said MEDC Executive Director Tim Cummings. “We want nothing more than to place our local talent with these local businesses, which is why we are extremely happy to see such a record turnout at today’s job fair.”

“It’s been an amazing job fair,” said ETR Deputy Director Maria Duca. “The applicant pool is as high-quality as the available jobs. We have a number of great companies, offering excellent opportunities, and we have qualified jobseekers that fit the skillsets employers are looking for.”
