beTurtle.com Supports Funerals Going Green... Gross

Gross: Funeral industry goes green and rotting bodies become mulch... ewww.

New York, NY, November 02, 2007 --(PR.com)-- beTurtle.com, a new environmental web community and information portal, has signed up Mark Jabo as a featured author and blogger. His most recent work can be found on the site, along with other unusual green news, photos and videos.

Mark is a professional comedy writer and has an unusual take on just about everything, especially going green. He recently co-authored the book, "The Sky is Falling! A Global Warming Survival Guide." According to Mark, "I'm a stand-up comic, sit-down writer and semi-reclining producer."

His latest feature article, "Compost Mortem" is a hilarious commentary on the business of 'natural' funerals. Or as Jabo puts it, "You can bet little Christopher from next door will think twice about chasing his baseball into your backyard if grandma is buried there."

According to Mechele Shoneman, CEO, "It turns out being buried green is cheaper and sometimes easier than traditional methods."

Next weekend, the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Maine, a nonprofit group that provides information about alternatives to modern funerals will focus on green funerals.

Mark Harris, author of "Grave Matters: A Journey Through the Modern Funeral Industry to a Natural Way of Burial," will be the keynote speaker.

The idea of environmentally friendly funerals is getting more popular as the green movement gains steam. And, one of the biggest motivators can be price.

Green burials typically range between $500 and $2,000, where traditional ones are more like $6,000 to $10,000 depending on the rituals employed.

"It might be odd, a little surreal, and sort of creepy, but maybe burying grandma in the backyard isn't so crazy when you look at the benefits," says Shoneman. "Either way, Mark's write-up on www.beturtle.com will have you laughing about it."
