Bayer MaterialScience LLC Helps Building Professionals Meet Their Sustainability Goals

New Orleans, LA, October 23, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Sustainability is now standard in many building and construction projects, and building professionals are continually on the lookout for high-performance materials for sustainable building environments. With its high-performance polycarbonates, polyurethanes, coatings, adhesives and sealants raw materials as well as its technology expertise, Bayer helps building professionals meet their sustainability goals of low volatile organic compounds (VOC) emissions, increased energy-efficiency, reduced overall maintenance costs and materials with longer service lives.

A sampling of Bayer’s materials and technologies for environmentally friendly building will be on display in its booth (#1223) at Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, October 22-24, in New Orleans. Here is a sneak peek.

Coatings, adhesive and sealant technologies: High-performance durability
When it comes to more environmentally friendly coatings, adhesive and sealant technologies, Bayer offers quite a spread. Of particular note is its High Durability (HD) architectural wall coating technology. This coating’s extreme durability makes it ideal for high-touch, high-traffic areas, as it withstands frequent scrubbings and reduces the need for repainting even in low sheen versions.

Bayer’s polyaspartic coating technology provides design engineers with a durable, high-performance coating and low VOC levels. Polyaspartic coatings cure well in a range of temperatures and humidities, so builders can extend the application season. A flooring sample in Bayer’s booth will highlight the benefits of polyaspartic technology.

The booth will also showcase Bayer’s architectural house model, where miniature versions of real-life applications – including cabinets, flooring and walls – demonstrate the outstanding properties and aesthetic qualities Bayer’s coatings and sealants technologies offer.

Polycarbonate resins and sheets: Strength, light transmission and diffusion
Polycarbonates are a versatile material lending themselves to many applications that support sustainability. Utilizing polycarbonate sheet for daylighting applications – such as skylights, covered pedestrian walkways and canopies – provides strength, light transmission and light diffusion, as well as design options not possible with glass or acrylic. Polycarbonate’s outstanding combination of properties provides architects with the necessary properties to achieve the energy efficiency and reduction in building costs associated with daylighting.

Sustainable lighting, including light emitting diodes (LED) and light management, is a popular and growing segment of sustainable building. Bayer offers a wide range of materials for lighting applications, including polycarbonate grades specifically developed for LED applications that offer desired properties like thermal conductivity, translucence and reflective white color. Sample LEDs and a light box will demonstrate just a few of the many lighting possibilities achievable with Bayer’s materials.

Polyurethane materials: Insulation and strength
Proper building insulation is key to achieving many sustainability goals. Bayer provides architects and design professionals with a variety of polyurethane insulation systems and technologies, including seamless spray polyurethane foam insulation, and raw materials and systems for rigid foam polyisocyanurate insulation boards and insulated metal panels, whose thermoset composition makes them configurationally stable when exposed to heat from flame or weather. Examples of some of these technologies will be on display in Bayer’s booth.

Also on display will be windows featuring polyurethane composites utilizing Bayer’s polyurethane raw materials. The composites are used as high-performing window stiffeners and act as a good alternative to aluminum inserts, because they do not transfer heat and are noncorrosive.
