Texting Awareness Foundation Teams Up with Assemblyman Michael Montesano Representing District 15, to Educate Students of the Dangers of Texting

New York Education Program and Banner Donations at All Long Island High Schools; Program Will Educate and Remind Students About the Dangers of Texting and Driving

Massapequa, NY, October 23, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Texting and driving is the #1 killer of teens in America.

Two organizations have teamed up to reduce those numbers, and increase the exposure to the message and change activity. The Texting Awareness Foundation (TAF) (TextingAwareness.org) is launching an education Campaign, and Assemblyman Michael Montesano, representing District 15 Nassau County, Long Island is assisting the program with financial, and personnel support.

The campaign will begin as this school year gets underway on Long Island, Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and will run during the entire school year. Both the Texting Awareness Foundation and Assemblyman Michael Montesano are committed to reminding the public about the deadly dangers of texting and driving to help protect lives. The education program will reach thousands of students and has been planned to coincide with driver’s education classes schedules. Assemblyman Michael Montesano, who was a police officer and detective for the NYPD for a decade and also served as an EMT supervisor and investigator for the NYC Emergency Medical Service, has seen the results of distracted driving.

The New York Education Program seeks to reach young people across Long Island with public service announcements, partnerships with other safe driving organizations, in-school educational programs, car decals, reminder signs near exit areas in parking lots and on roads, and more. TAF is also asking the public to add a tagline to social media feeds: “DON’T TEXT AND DRIVE!” to help remind the public to stop engaging in this activity.

“The Texting Awareness Foundation wants to remind people that texting while driving ruins lives,” explains Rocco Panetta, Executive Director of the Texting Awareness Foundation. “We are committed to saving lives through effective advocacy and education to help people understand the catastrophic consequences that result from this dangerous activity. Texting and driving devastates families and entire communities – we are determined to put an end to this senseless act.”

Assemblyman Michael Montesano agrees and supports the efforts of the TAF and has assisted in the donation of Banners to be displayed in High School parking lots. District 15 School districts include Bethpage, Farmingdale Public Schools, Hicksville, Locust Valley Central, North Shore Central, Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central, Westbury, Holy Trinity Diocesan High School, and the Portledge School.
