Efforts of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties Agent Result in More Open Space for California

Laguna Beach, CA, November 09, 2014 --(PR.com)-- By coordinating with the Conservation Fund to secure a grant from the state of California, Candice Burroughs of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties helped to ensure that 297 acres of land on Mt. Baldy would be set aside for future generations. “It was an honor to represent the sellers in this transaction,” said Burroughs. “Their selflessness and belief in the value of protecting our open spaces have set an example for all of us to follow.”

The property was purchased by the Watershed Conservation Authority and will be managed by the Forest Service. A pristine, open tract that was among the last developable land on Mt. Baldy, the property has a stream and views to the valley below.

The Conservation Fund that facilitated the sale is a national nonprofit located in Arlington, Virginia, that has a satellite office in Laguna Beach represented by Scott Ferguson and Derek Ostensen, both long-time residents of the area. Both Ferguson and Ostensen were instrumental in securing land managed by the Laguna Beach Canyon Foundation. More information can be found by visiting www.conservationfund.org.

“I was very pleased to be a part of this,” added Burroughs, “not only because it is a prized piece of real estate but also because the locals were so passionate about keeping it undeveloped.”

Burroughs has continually displayed her dedication to protecting the environment and commitment to her community. A founding board member of the Laguna Ocean Foundation (LOF), she is a former member of the board of directors for Laguna Beach Seniors. Burroughs was also a founding board member of The Women Leaders Network. A 30-year resident of the Laguna Beach area, she volunteers her time to serve as a docent for the LOF and the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts.

“Much more than a normal transaction, this required an agent with finesse, integrity and a particular expertise with contract negotiations,” said Jim Vermilya, manager of the brokerage’s Laguna Beach office. “I have no doubt that Candice was the right agent for the job. Her dedication to her clients and ability to deliver outstanding results have made her a consistent award winner.”

As a result of her passion for helping buyers and talent for marketing, Burroughs has ranked in the top two percent of the brokerage’s national network for her sales. She credits her success to her local market knowledge and background in the travel hospitality field, which gave her a complex understanding of how to offer attentive and thorough services.
