Furthering Fathering Set to Launch Its Christmas Help for Single Moms Gift Card Giving Campaign

Brooklyn, NY, November 23, 2014 --(PR.com)-- On November 23rd, The Furthering Fathering Corporation will begin its online campaign to raise funds for single mothers in need of financial assistance this holiday season. The campaign will run for one month. With the funds collected, the organization will purchase gift cards from popular stores and brands to give to single moms to help them buy gifts for their children for Christmas. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to Furthering Fathering’s programs and initiatives.

This fundraising campaign was placed on the heart of LaShawn Smith, Furthering Fathering’s event director. She is just one of the many women who give the organization unique perspectives of how to tackle the societal problem of the absentee father. LaShawn expressed, “on the other side of fatherlessness there are millions of single moms trying to provide for themselves and their families. Our organization has many programs for men, but we also want to start working with women, who have been impacted by the devastating effects of fatherlessness. The objective of this campaign is for us to try to alleviate some of the burden many of these women may face during the holidays and provide support. There will be follow up components as well to make sure that our efforts are effective.” The other women of the organization share her passion and are equally committed to helping mothers in need.

Men will play an important part in this campaign as well, and together they will join forces to strive to make a difference. Lamont Jones, Furthering Fathering’s COO said, “the statistics are staggering. Approximately 82.2% of custodial parents are mothers (U.S. Census Bureau 2009).”

LaShawn added, “According to the data, 1 out of 4 children under 18 are being raised without a father and nearly half live below the poverty line (U.S. Census Bureau 2013). There are clear disadvantages that we must help to improve.”

Furthering Fathering hopes to be able to give away dozens of gift cards and impact the lives of many families this Christmas. They are asking for the support of the community to help them accomplish their goal.
