Portland, OR, November 08, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Minneapolis-based firm chooses Limbo’s Giarratana for action, effects expertise.

Today, Limbo Films, a Portland, Ore.-based film production company, announced that two separate campaigns directed by Ray Giarratana for Minneapolis advertising agency Periscope have hit the national TV airwaves. The campaigns, produced by Limbo Films for Periscope clients Rust-Oleum and Papa Murphy’s, will both air nationally one year. Giarratana was chosen to direct both projects due to his expertise in combining live action, special effects and comedy.

“Ray was the perfect guy to pull this off, both from a comedic standpoint and from a technical one,” said Charlie Callahan, Creative Director at Periscope. “He has the right timing, perspective and track record.”

The two spots developed for Rust-Oleum – “Can’t Get Enough” and “Shake Things Up” – employ whimsical storylines. “Can’t Get Enough” highlights a couple coveting their neighbor’s freshly-coated garage floor, then trying to hide when he arrives home. Giarratana was able to make the nosy neighbors “hang” on the rising garage door with the help of an engineered rig combined with clever post-production effects. “Shake Things Up” features a backyard spray paint transformation, where all that was once dull is made glowing with a fresh coat of Rust-Oleum – including, in one shot, the camera lens.

Giarratana is also behind direction and special effects for three Papa Murphy’s pizza ads: “Delivery Guy,” “Feed the Family,” and “Four Pounder.” In the latter, a customer asks for a “huge pizza,” and receives one so heavy that its weight causes him to crash through the floor. The shot required unique green screen work and effects engineering by Giarratana and his crew. The overall campaign is designed to help Papa Murphy’s, the sixth-largest pizza chain in the United States, raise its profile in markets outside of the Pacific Northwest and Midwest.

A former visual effects supervisor turned commercial director, Giarratana joined Limbo Films in 2002 to pursue live action work. Ray brings a strong sense for comedic timing and performance to all of his work. His directorial credits include spots for AFLAC, Coca-Cola, Budweiser, IKEA, Frito-Lay, Gatorade, Pontiac and Hallmark. As visual effects supervisor, he lent his talents to spots for Mercedes-Benz, AT&T, Coca-Cola, Dr. Pepper, the entire Budweiser “Louie the Lizard” campaign and music videos, including Michael Jackson’s infamous “Black or White.” Ray has won numerous awards for his work, including Clio Awards, AICP Awards, and Emmy Awards.

“Ray has a tremendous amount of experience that benefits every project he touches,” said Gary Nolton, Limbo Films Owner, “but it’s his innate ability to bring a story board, however fantastic, to life that sets him apart. His direction makes projects feel believable and engage people, and this makes him one of our most in-demand directors. We are proud to represent Ray and his incomparable work.”
