Women Filling Lucrative Trucking Driving Shortage

Standish, MI, December 17, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Delivering Excellence newsletter reported only 5.2 percent of semi-truck drivers in the U.S. are women, yet with a shortage of 30,000 truckers nationwide, and expected to grow to more than 200,000 in the next decade, Ellen Voie, president and chief executive of the Women in Trucking Association, said. The group was founded to address obstacles and encourage more women to enter the field. Voie said pay varies depending on what you’re hauling and driving. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual pay is $38,200. More than 10% of the drivers have six figure annual salaries. The topic was addressed in a recent issue of Delivering Excellence.
