MindStream Academy Announces Groundbreaking Partnership to Combat Childhood Obesity in Mexico

Innovative boarding school announces partnership with health professionals in Mexico to help growing population of obese adolescents

Hilton Head Island, SC, January 14, 2015 --(PR.com)-- MindStream Academy, an innovative boarding school in South Carolina, is on the forefront of the childhood obesity epidemic. Founded by Ray Travaglione in 2010, the innovative school has helped over 100 overweight teens from around the world learn the skills they need to navigate a path of health and wellness. Students attend classes in gardening, nutrition, fitness, and cooking while participating in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Equine-Assisted Therapy. Working in combination, these program components help teens lose a significant amount of weight. Data proves that once teens have been given the tools to maintain a healthy lifestyle, they are adept at continuing and sustaining their weight loss upon graduation from the program.

Mexico has recently overtaken the U.S. when it comes to obesity rates, and the epidemic is especially affecting the adolescent population. Now, thanks to a new partnership with Mexican physician, Dr. Nejama Sadovich, MindStream Academy can help even more adolescents who struggle with obesity. Thanks to this groundbreaking international partnership, MindStream Academy and Dr. Sadovich are able to reach even more at-risk youth. Says Dr. Sadovich, “Obesity is a serious problem in our country, and the intervention should be aggressive. Treating the young ones is caring about the future of our nation. It's great to have Mindstream Academy on our side.”

According to MindStream Academy’s Founder and CEO Ray Travaglione, “We can help save even more lives by joining forces. These children need a powerful intervention now. There is currently plenty of emphasis on prevention, and while that is beneficial, it is just one part of combating the growing international obesity epidemic. But for those children who are in crisis today, suffering from the medical, emotional, and social side effects of obesity, these kids desperately need a solution. MindStream Academy is that solution.”

One student from Mexico City recently lost over 25 lbs. during the previous semester, and she is preparing to return for the school’s spring semester, beginning in January. She says, “Mindstream is a place where I could release my worst habits. It is the kind of place where you can recover yourself – mentally and physically. Being able to go to school here has helped me so much with everything, from my fitness to helping my old habits of overeating unhealthy food. I have learned so much from this school, and I plan to continue life after MindStream with the plans they have given me. I am re-learning how to eat well and be healthy.”

Students from around the world will be arriving in Hilton Head, SC for MindStream Academy’s spring semester for classes beginning on January 12, 2015. In an effort to help as many at-risk teens as possible, the school allows rolling admissions, continuing to accept applications throughout the semester. There are still limited spaces available, and applications can be found online or by calling (843) 842-2023.

MindStream Academy, founded in 2010 by Ray Travaglione, is the only school in the world focusing on a holistic approach to whole-person wellness. Through the program’s experiential learning components, teens graduate from MindStream armed with the tools essential for leading balanced, healthy, and productive lives.
