Wilson, NC, January 24, 2015 --(PR.com
)-- In its second year, the 2015 Butterfly Aurora Cup has already become an annual tradition for players throughout the Chicago area and the Midwest. Unlike the coasts, the Midwest has many fewer full time clubs which are spread far and wide across the heartland of America. Therefore, it has become vital for players and coaches to have opportunities to compete together at high level events to continue fostering the sport in the area.
Although only 2 of the 8 quarter finalists in the Open Event had Midwest ties, a great majority of the players entered into the tournament had traveled from across the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Ohio and Indiana to participate in the only 4-star tournament in the area. For junior and female players (who are normally a very small minority in clubs in the Midwest), the event offers a rare chance to connect and be inspired by other players similar to themselves. For many, this tournament provides the only opportunity to see high level players compete within driving distance.
Table tennis interest runs high in the Midwest (as evidenced by the 300+ players entered into the tournament), where players from various communities including Chinese, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Vietnamese and of course All-American, come together and participate as one in an exciting sport for all ages.
