)-- Tonya Khoury, the MD of ROI Africa the media monitoring and intelligence company supporting actor Ivan Zimmermann’s conquest to collect 12,000 cans of food for each of the 12,000km he travels, says Ivan has entered Sudan today after successfully completing his trip through Egypt on a bicycle.
Ivan says, “It’s gone well so far, but I am fully aware that I have very difficult days ahead with the extreme heat, but I also know #Leadersneverquit!”
He departed on the Tour d’Afrique on 9 January in Cairo and is expected to arrive on 9 May in Cape Town.
Tour d’Afrique has been recognised as the world’s longest and most challenging mountain bike stage adventure. This is the '13th edition' and includes ten countries, stretching through Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.
Zimmermann will take photos and videos and will share that with media on a regular basis. He is also planning to follow the trip with motivational talks countrywide.
The main sponsors of Zimmermann’s venture are SAICA (the South African Institute for Chartered Accountants), who will be running an internal motivational campaign, Leaders Never Quit, in conjunction with the trip, and SAGE Pastel.
Ivan plans to raise one tin of food for each of the 12 000 kilometres and this food will be distributed by the Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation in South Africa. For more information together with collection points for the tins, visit www.ivanzimmermann.com
