)-- The Eldorado Resort Casino in Reno is busy preparing to make dozens of authentic Chinese specialty dishes to celebrate Chinese New Year. Look for traditional Chinese specialties in The Buffet from Feb. 19-24 and the magnificent White Crane Lion Dancers Feb. 14-16 and Feb. 21-22 in honor of the Year of the Goat.
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the New Year begins on Feb. 19 and marks the transition from the Year of the Horse to the Year of the Goat. While the Year of the Horse was considered a fortunate year that brings luck and good things, the Year of the Goat is said to be a period of prosperity and well-being, promising more favorable times than the previous year.
To usher in the Year of the Goat, The Buffet will serve dozens of ever-changing appetizers, side dishes and entrees, plus Chinese crisp roast pig every night. Some of the dishes planned include clams with black bean sauce, steamed mussels with lemon butter sauce, ginger sauce crab, Chinese chicken wings, five-spice shrimp, wok-braised crab, Mongolian beef, seafood chow mein, roast duck, Hunan lamb and more.
The Chinese New Year buffet will be served each night from 4 to 9 p.m. From Thursday, Feb. 19 through Saturday, Feb. 21, guests can tuck into the Chinese New Year buffet for $25.99 per adult, $12.99 per child and Eldorado Gold Club members and above for just $20.99. From Sunday, Feb. 22 through Tuesday, Feb. 24, adult guests may dine for $19.49, children for $9.99 and Eldorado Gold Club members and above for just $14.99 per person.
The Chinese Lion Dance has been an integral element of Chinese culture for more than a thousand years and a beloved part of the Chinese New Year festivities. Feb. 14-16 and 21-22, the White Crane Lion Dancers will begin on the mezzanine and wind their way through the casino for all to see. The lion dance performances will be at 2, 5, 8 and 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14; 1, 4, 7 and 10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15; 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16; 2, 5, 8 and 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21; and 1, 4, 7 and 10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22.
A Chinese concert starring William So and Edmond Leung will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15 at the Downtown Reno Ballroom.
