MADSA Celebrates 10th Anniversary in 2015

The Malaysian Dietary Supplement Association revamps its operations in conjunction with their 10th Anniversary to play a more aggressive role in health care in Malaysia.

Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, February 04, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Malaysian Dietary Supplement Association (MADSA) celebrates its 10th year of existence in 2015.

The major aims of MADSA are:

to advance the interests of the Members with regards to Regulatory, Scientific and Commercial issues
to increase awareness among the public on the health benefits of supplements

MADSA Members include both homegrown and foreign companies involved in the manufacture and marketing of dietary supplements.

The supplements industry in Malaysia is estimated to be MYR1.8 billion in 2014. This includes vitamins and dietary supplements sold via retail pharmacies, other retail establishments and MLM organisations.

This makes the supplements industry a major contributor to the Malaysian economy. Many of the Malaysian supplements manufacturers are innovators in the field.

The industry is regulated by the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau. All dietary supplements have to be registered with the NPCB before it can be sold to the public.

Due to the increased regulatory oversight, MADSA Members at their last AGM decided to create a Regulatory Subcommittee and a Marketing Subcommittee. The purpose of the subcommittees are to deliberate on matters related to the two areas and advise the Main Committee appropriate measures and responses to market dynamics.

Furthermore, a General Manager was appointed in 2014 to manage the daily operations of the Association. All Member organisations’ representatives in the Main Committee and Subcommittees are employees of the respective companies and they have limited time to attend to Association related business. The General Manager is expected to attend to such business.

In order to boost awareness of the Association among the public, one of the activities was to revamp the website. The new website which was launched towards the end of 2014 has already increased visitors and enquiries from foreign companies interested to enter the Malaysian market.

The new website now has health articles targeted to the public. Members of the public may access the site at www.madsa.org.my. The public are also encouraged to contact the Association to report counterfeit supplements or obtain advise on supplements usage. They may direct queries to the Secretariat at secretariat@madsa.org.my

There are other activities being planned to educate the public further on dietary supplements and to engage the various government agencies involved in the supplements market.

MADSA is on a membership drive currently and invites all dietary supplements companies in Malaysia to register as a Member. Membership details may be obtained by writing to the Secretariat at the email address stated above.
