SCCWRP to Discuss Digital PCR at SoCal Beach Meeting

The Southern California Beach Meeting will be held this February 18, 2015, in Costa Mesa, and will include a discussion on Digital Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology.

Miami, FL, February 04, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Yiping Cao of the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP) will be discussing the application of Digital Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology in water quality monitoring at the Southern California Beach Meeting this February 18, 2015, in Costa Mesa.

The SCCWRP recently published a research paper entitled “Droplet digital PCR for simultaneous quantification of general and human-associated fecal indicators for water quality assessment.” Droplet Digital PCR is an advanced technology that provides absolute quantification of the target DNA, allowing water managers to know not only the source of fecal pollution but also exactly how much fecal bacteria is in the water.

Source Molecular Corporation will be attending the Southern California Beach Meeting taking great interest in the Digital PCR presentation as it was one of the laboratories that provided support to the SCCWRP researchers in their inter-laboratory research study on the use of Droplet Digital PCR to monitor environmental contaminants in water.

With its great familiarity in implementing this technology, Source Molecular is offering a Droplet Digital PCR service on large projects requiring identification of the source of fecal pollution in water samples.

The meeting will also tackle an Overview of EPA Technical Support Material for 2012 Recreational Water Quality Criteria by Jeff Soller of Soller Environmental; Channel Islands Harbor Beaches: Update on Bacteria Water Quality and TMDL implementation by Bram Sercu of Ventura County; and BeachWatch 2.0 Preliminary demo by Jonnel Medina of the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).

The Southern California Beach Meeting agenda also made reference to Source Molecular’s presentation on the developments of Microbial Source Tracking (MST) at the webinar hosted by the California Water Quality Monitoring Collaboration Network (WQMCN) on January 15, 2015, and a link to the video California's Source ID Manual, and US EPA tests: Developments in Microbial Source Tracking by Mauricio Larenas and Grace Anderson was shared.
