Retired Nevada Supreme Court Justice Joins Naylor & Braster Law Firm

William Maupin, retired chief justice of the Nevada Supreme Court, joins Las Vegas firm.

Las Vegas, NV, February 05, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Retired Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court A. William Maupin has joined the law firm of Naylor & Braster. Maupin will focus his legal practice with the firm on litigation, litigation consulting and alternative dispute resolution in Las Vegas and Reno.

Maupin is one of the Nevada legal community’s most respected professionals, both as an attorney and Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court. Prior to joining Naylor & Braster, he was a shareholder at Lionel Sawyer & Collins.

“I have worked with John (Naylor) and Jennifer (Braster) in the past and believe they are exceptional lawyers with great talent,” said Maupin. “I wanted a chance to work with them more closely and know this will be a rewarding experience with much fewer client conflicts than are inherent at larger firms. John Naylor and Jennifer Braster formed Naylor & Braster in July of 2014 serve as its managing partners. The firm focuses on commercial litigation, construction law, appellate law and alternative dispute resolution. A former judge advocate for the United States Air Force, Naylor also handles veteran’s related cases. Braster helped form the Animal Law section of the Nevada State Bar Association and handles animal law cases, including pro bono cases, in addition to her legal practice.

Maupin is also passionate about community service, and since 2002 has volunteered with a medical team that provides ophthalmology services in Haiti. Friends of the Children of Las Cohabas works to alleviate the hunger, illiteracy and poor health conditions of the children of Haiti by implementing programs in healthcare, nutrition and education.

Maupin has been a licensed attorney since 1971 and has had a long and prosperous career in Nevada law. He practiced criminal law, civil casualty litigation, insurance law and professional negligence representation prior to becoming a district court judge in Clark County, Nevada in 1993. He was elected to the Nevada Supreme Court in 1996 and served for 12 years before retiring as Chief Judge in 2010.

During his judicial career, Maupin spearheaded the Nevada Court Annexed Arbitration system, one of the most comprehensive alternative dispute resolution programs in the United States. He also worked with Nevada judges and lawyers in re-vamping the Nevada Rules of Civil Procedure and helped to form commissions and committees to improve the quality of Nevada’s judicial system, including the Nevada Supreme Court Judicial Code Commission.

He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Clark County Bar Association Roger D. Foley Professionalism Award (1997), the Clark County Liberty Bell Award (2008) and the Nevada Press Association “First Amendment Champion” Award (2008). He is a past board member of both Nevada Legal Services and Clark County Legal Services.

Maupin is an AV Preeminent-rated attorney and received his J.D. from the University of Arizona College of Law, ranking 9th in class. He received his B.A. from the University of Nevada Reno.
