Hearts Beat As One Foundation Announces Co-Chairs of Inaugural Founder’s Ball

Charlotte, NC, February 18, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Hearts Beat As One Foundation (HB1) is pleased to announce Mike Blackwelder, Tom Feldman, and Council-Member LaWana Mayfield as Co-Chairs of the inaugural Hearts Beat As One Founder’s Ball.

The Founders Ball, HB1’s signature event and celebration, will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Historic Mint Museum – Randolph Road. This white tie affair will highlight the foundation’s accomplishments while attendees experience several themed rooms featuring national and local entertainment, sampling local fare and spirits. With performances by Grammy nominated, multi-platinum' Deborah Cox and Synergy Violins, and more announcements in the coming weeks, attendees will dance, laugh, play – Have a Ball! This will be a night to remember.

“We are excited to have such a dynamic trio as our co-chairs for our inaugural Ball,” said Joe Davis, Chairman/Director of the Hearts Beat as One Foundation. “All three co-chairs bring a wealth of experience to the event and will put their own personal touch on the evening.”

Mike Blackwelder is the Chief Advancement Officer at Safe Alliance in Charlotte, NC. His current responsibilities include management and supervision of the Advancement Department, oversight of all agency fundraising events, management and reconciliation of all donations, and stewardship of both individual and corporate relationships. Mike also provides training to staff and oversees the agency’s volunteer management efforts. He has been an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) - Charlotte Chapter since 2007, serving on the membership, scholarship, and NC Philanthropy Conference committees at various times. He will serve as a member of the AFP Board of Directors beginning in 2015.

Tom Feldman is a Co-Founder of the Hearts Beat As One Foundation, Secretary, and Director of Branding and Design. He is also Vice President and Senior Art Director for Tyvola Design. Clients range from retail, healthcare, telecommunications, construction, grocery and motor sports. Tom is active in many local organizations as a volunteer including the Regional AIDS Interfaith Network and has been central in the founding and development of Campus Pride since 2001.

LaWana Mayfield represents District 3 on Charlotte City Council. She was elected in 2011 and is serving her second term. In 2014, LaWana was awarded the David Bohnett LGBT Leadership Fellowship and completed the Harvard Kennedy School of Government program. She serves on the National League of Cities (NLC) Human Development Committee and is the NLC's first Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Local Official's 1st vice chair. She also serves on the Centralina Economic Development Committee and is secretary of the North Carolina Black Elected Municipal Officials. LaWana received the Diversity Outreach and Volunteer of the Year awards from the Human Rights Campaign, the Woman of Achievement Community Champion Award from the YWCA, 2012, 2013 and 2014 Best of on Q-List, the 2013 Harvey B. Gantt Award from the Young Democrats, as well as the 2014 Charlotte Business Guild Torchbearer Award.

The 2015 Founder’s Ball benefits three organizations that have been selected by the Hearts Beat As One Foundation board. Receiving grant awards during the evening: Charlotte Autism, Safe Alliance, and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

Members of the Foundation will also choose student winners of HB1 scholarships and other awards planned to be announced during the event. HB1 Foundation strives to include financial and non-financial support to core areas of focus each year. The Founder’s Ball will be no exception.

On Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 7:00, HB1 will host an open house at NoDa Brewing Company, 2229 N. Davidson St. Charlotte, for those in the community interested in volunteer opportunities with the Hearts Beat As One Founder’s Ball.
