Accretive Health Employees Volunteer to Serve Shelter Residents in Milwaukee

Accretive Helping Hands, the not-for-profit organization led by Accretive Health employees, recently volunteered at The Cathedral Center.

Chicago, IL, February 25, 2015 --(PR.com)-- For more than 10 years, The Cathedral Center in Milwaukee, Wis., has offered access to safe shelter and services that replace despair with hope, uncertainty with stability, and offer a brighter future for nearly 1,000 vulnerable women and families with children each year. Last week, Accretive Helping Hands, the not-for-profit organization led by Accretive Health employees, volunteered at The Cathedral Center.

The temperature was in the single digits in Milwaukee on Feb. 17. The Cathedral Center hosted approximately 60 women and families that freezing, wintry evening. Without a full kitchen, the Center appreciated it when one of the Accretive Health Milwaukee revenue cycle operations employees, Mike Vierya, offered his kitchen to prepare a meal for all 60 people. With a group of Accretive Helping Hands volunteers pitching in, a meal of penne pasta with mozzarella cheese, salad, fruit, cookies and juice was prepared, then delivered and served to shelter residents and staff.

“Many people came up for second and third helpings of food,” said Betsy Langford, an Accretive Health employee who works in revenue cycle operations and volunteered at the shelter. “Throughout the night we heard…how much the women and families and Cathedral Center staff appreciated us being there.”
