)-- The Research Science Initiative, sponsored in partnership with the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE), the University of Dammam, The King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (MAWHIBA), and Saudi Aramco, will serve 50 high-achieving middle school girls. This is the first Saudi Arabia program for young girls that encourages science, technology, engineering and mathematical (STEM) studies.
The Research Science Initiative will be held on the University of Dammam Campus for 5 weeks from June 7 – July 9, 2015. This program provides rigorous instruction, individualized mentorships, and laboratory experiences for young female scholars. It will be led by Dr. Amy Sillman Co-Director, the Center for Excellence in Education and Dr. Hanadi Baghdadi, Co-Director, University of Dammam.
“We are pleased to launch this new RSI program for young women in Saudi Arabia,” stated Joann DiGennaro, CEE’s President. “It is exciting for CEE to plan and implement an Initiative, first of its kind, to propel young female scholars to careers in STEM. This project follows our partnership to establish the Research Science Institute at KAUST for male and female high school scholars.”
