HopStop.Com Survey Finds Significant Difference In NYC Subway Service Quality

Line A Wins Overall Best (6.2 our of 10), G Overall Worst (2.2 out of 10), W Cleanest, C Dirtiest, A Most Timely and M Least Timely.

New York, NY, January 30, 2006 --(PR.com)-- You may not have a choice in the lines you use to go from Point A to Point B, but commuters note a distinct difference between them. HopStop.com, today’s most comprehensive and trafficked website for online New York City subway and bus directions, found a significant disparity in New York City subway line quality and performance according to its recently published survey, The 2005 Commuter Choice. In the largest and first poll of its kind survey, 1,500 routine New York City commuters were asked to rate subway lines on four criteria: timeliness, safety, cleanliness and comfort.

The HopStop.com survey found that commuters’ experience significantly differed in regards to the service quality provided, with Line A earning best overall and Line G earning worst overall performance.

2005 Commuter Choice Top Five NYC Subway Lines

Overall Best Lines: A, 6, 4, W, 2    Overall Worst Lines: G, M, C, R, D
Cleanest Lines: W, 2, 4, 3, 1        Dirtiest Lines: C, G, J, B, D
Most Timely Lines A, 6, 4, 7, E           Least Timely Lines: M, G, R, N, L

One survey participant remarked, “All trains can get dirty, but the 6 is by far the best of the worst in my book. It was one of the first to move over to the sleek, modern, automated message car style, but is still cleaner than the 2 and 5's of the same model. They also run on time!”

"We’re excited about the interest and participation in our first annual Commuter Choice survey,” states stated Chinedu Echeruo, CEO of HopStop.com. “The poll proved a great success in determining the actual user experience across all major New York City subway lines. HopStop.com will continue providing relevant mass transit system information to New York commuters in 2006 and the years to come.”

The 2005 Commuter Choice poll surveyed more than 1,500 ratings by New York City subway users between September 1 and December 31, 2005. Participants responded to questions using a ten-point rating scale. Results were quantified by arithmetic average.
