Lenovo Employees Volunteer at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School in Celebration of National Volunteer Week and Annual Sales Kickoff Event

Global technology company participated in school beautification and student development projects on April 13.

Research Triangle Park, NC, April 15, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Around 200 Lenovo employees volunteered at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School on Monday, April 13. These efforts were part of National Volunteer Week from Sunday, April 12 through Saturday, April 18, which encourages the American public to seek out ways to engage in their local communities.

Throughout the morning, half of Lenovo’s volunteers worked on school beautification projects, including painting, mulching, cleaning and organizing on the campus while the other half conducted career readiness workshops, including mock interview sessions, where students had the opportunity to discuss various science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) career paths with the Lenovo employees. To offer the career readiness workshops, Lenovo partnered with Junior Achievement, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering students in the areas of workforce preparation and entrepreneurship. In addition, Lenovo donated 44 ThinkCentre computers and monitors for the school’s media center.

This volunteer event directly ties in with the company’s sixth annual North American and Global Kickoff, during which nearly 5,000 Lenovo employees from across the country come together to reflect on last year’s successes and plan for the future. Each year, this major celebration includes a public service element to reaffirm Lenovo’s commitment to the community.

"We are very fortunate to have Lenovo partner with us for this community service event. I am so excited to see how our students do in the mock interviews and how they will benefit from the career readiness presentations,” said John Geraghty, engineering academy coordinator of Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School. “SRMHS will get a beautiful face-lift with all of their hard work, and the benefit to our school will be priceless.”
