Detroit, MI, April 29, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Detroit Lions’ Tahir Whitehead to Attend

Opening weekend of Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program’s new building will see a fury of activity. On May 2nd & 3rd, this USA Boxing-sanctioned event will bring boxers aged 8-16 from across the state to Detroit. Tahir Whitehead, the Detroit Lions’ linebacker who sits on DBGYP’s advisory board, will be on hand with other players throughout the weekend.

“It’s great to bring boxing to Detroit,” said founder and head coach Khali Sweeney. “It is an honor to host this event in our new building. It’s more than boxing – this facility develops the total kid, and I can’t wait for everyone to see that. And Tahir knows our kids – it will mean a lot to them that he’s a part of the weekend.”

Title sponsor ROSSETTI and presenting sponsor Sachse Construction have been instrumental in making sure the building is open and ready for action. Drawn to the special combination of Detroit, sports and design, ROSSETTI has donated full design services to the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program’s building renovation.

“With less than a week before we open our doors, these companies have been nothing less than amazing,” said Jessica Hauser, executive director. “Their dedication to these kids shines.”

In addition to the boxing bouts, Downtown Boxing Gym will also screen the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight on Saturday night. Tickets are $15 per day or $25 for the weekend, and can be purchased at www.downtownyouthboxing.org/events.
