The Gateway Family YMCA Celebrates National Walking Day

The Gateway Family YMCA provided National Walking Day events throughout Union and Middlesex County.

Union, NJ, May 10, 2015 --(PR.com)-- This year, National Walking Day was celebrated across the country in early April. Staff members from The Gateway Family YMCA – Association Office took a walk at lunchtime in celebration of National Walking Day, joined by local community partners. National Walking Day, observed on the first Wednesday in April, is sponsored by the American Heart Association, encouraging community health. The Gateway Family YMCA organized walks throughout the county, at various locations led by YMCA staff teams.

“It’s refreshing to get up from your desk and take a walk during the day,” stated Krystal R. Canady, CEO – The Gateway Family YMCA. “Employee wellness is important and at the YMCA we encourage staff to get out and walk to celebrate National Walking Day.” The Gateway Family YMCA Association Office staff team and members of Shaping Elizabeth, a collaboration of organizations in Elizabeth working together to improve the health of the community, took a walk at the Elizabeth Midtown Walking Trail off North Broad Street.

The Gateway Family YMCA – Five Points Branch and Wellness Center Branch organized walks throughout the day including staff, YMCA members and children from the Early Childhood Development Center. Staff members and children at the Elizabeth Branch Child Development Center walked in Elizabeth and Rahway Branch staff and members gathered for a walk locally in Rahway. “We encourage members of the community to join us on National Walking Day and every day to join together for healthy exercise,” stated Melynda A. Mileski, EVP/COO, The Gateway Family YMCA.
