Meals on Wheels America and Subaru Launch Online Volunteer Drive to Help Meals on Wheels of Tampa Serve More Tampa Seniors and Homebound

Tampa, FL, June 04, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Meals On Wheels of Tampa is one of 5,000 local Meals on Wheels programs across the country working every day to protect millions of seniors from the threats of isolation and hunger – an effort made possible by millions of volunteers who help in communities just like Tampa, all across America. The number of seniors in our country continues to grow rapidly, and it will take many more of us to meet the escalating need. That is why Meals on Wheels America, with support from Subaru of America (SOA), is launching a new online tool called the Meals on Wheels Online Volunteer Drive.

“Meals on Wheels is powered by everyday people standing up to lend a caring hand to their aging neighbors,” said Ellie Hollander, President and CEO of Meals on Wheels America. “We need many more helping hands and friendly smiles to enable us to be there for more seniors. We’re optimistic that this new tool will help bring more critically needed volunteers to our local programs, fill a broader range of volunteer needs, and make it easier for those interested in helping us to get started.”

Through an initiative called Subaru Loves To Help, Subaru and Meals on Wheels America are working together to make it easier for anyone interested in volunteering with a local Meals on Wheels program to get connected with that program and its volunteer opportunities. SOA supported the creation of the first Meals on Wheels Online Volunteer Drive and, as a sign of their commitment to their communities and to making a positive impact on the world, SOA and local Subaru retailers will be spreading the word about the Drive and supporting local Meals on Wheels programs in a variety of other ways this June.
