Healthcare Publisher Tracks Progress Toward Integrated Healthcare

The latest Healthcare Intelligence Network benchmarks survey tracks trends in integration of behavioral health and primary care.

Sea Girt, NJ, June 12, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The leading publisher of healthcare trends and metrics invites healthcare companies to share their progress toward integration of behavioral and physical health care through June 17, 2015.

While the Affordable Care Act provides for prevention, early intervention and treatment of mental and/or substance use disorders as an essential health benefit, integration of behavioral healthcare with physical or primary care has been slow.

Participation in the 10-question survey, which collects metrics on level of healthcare integration achieved, populations served, favored tools and workflows, challenges of integration and other benchmarks, is open through June 17, 2015.

Companies that respond by the survey deadline will be emailed an executive summary of survey results.

"Depression is a common comorbidity in individuals with chronic illness, and yet many primary care practices do not even conduct a simple screening for this condition," notes Melanie Matthews, HIN executive vice president and chief operating officer. "Beyond the clinical imperative, there is a business need for integration: behavioral health conditions affect nearly one in five Americans, leading to healthcare costs of $57 billion a year, on par with cancer, according to the AHRQ."

One respondent who completes the survey will be randomly chosen to receive an Adobe Acrobat PDF version of "Dual Eligibles Care and Service Planning: Integrative Approaches for the Medicare-Medicaid Population," a 25-page Healthcare Intelligence Network report valued at $79.

HIN's 10 Questions on Integration of Behavioral Health and Primary Care will assemble a snapshot of the industry's progress toward healthcare integration, including the following data points:

- Prevalence of integrated programs;

- Level of behavioral and physical health integration achieved, as defined by the Collaborative Family Health Care Association;

-Use of telehealth for behavioral health consults;

- Populations served by integrated programs;

- Behavioral health screening tools used in integrated programs;

- Program components, including metrics on peer support, substance abuse treatment, Medicaid health homes, case management, and more;

- Healthcare professionals belonging to the integrated care team;

- Most effective tools, workflows or protocols in integrated programs, in respondents' own words;

- Greatest challenges and successes of integrating behavioral health with primary care; and

- Details on planned program integrations.
