Crocker Park Farmers Market Sponsored by St. John Medical Center to Encourage Local, Healthy Eating

SJMC brings local, fresh food to community.

Westlake, OH, June 13, 2015 --(PR.com)-- St. John Medical Center supports the locavore movement by sponsoring the Crocker Park North Union Farmers Market for the second year in a row. The sponsorship enables certified producers to connect with consumers for a healthier, more sustainable world.

Individual health benefits of eating locally include consuming food that is fresher, more nutritious, and ripened to perfection prior to being picked. Community perks include a boost to the local economy, conserving energy, reducing pollution, preserving soil fertility, and promoting neighborly interaction.

This year, the North Union Farmers Market will showcase a variety of Northeast Ohio’s best vendors in the West Park in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods at Crocker Park. Fresh grown produce, dairy, and meat products are brought in by local farmers while Cleveland’s bakers will provide delicious artisan breads, pastries, honey, and maple syrup.

Cherished favorites, like In Forno Pizza, will return with ready-to-serve wood-fired pizza while new merchants introduce their goods, like Six Shooter Coffee’s fair trade micro-roasted coffee beans.

“There’s a lot to see and taste as well as have the opportunity to speak directly to the growers or chefs about their offering. We are proud to sponsor such a positive community event,” said William Young Jr., President and CEO of St. John Medical Center.

As a sponsor, St. John Medical Center will have a booth to showcase its services as well as have plenty of interactive activities. This includes the opportunity to spin the St. John Medical Center Wheel of Fortune and answer a health-related question. Answer the question correctly and win a prize.

Meg Sullivan, head of Crocker Park sponsorships said, “St. John’s contribution makes it possible for fresh, local food to be available to shoppers and residents. We are very thankful to have an abundance of local food options presented by St. John Medical Center.”

North Union Farmers Market at Crocker Park opens on Saturday, April 11 from 9am to 1pm, rain or shine. It continues every Saturday through December 19. Free Parking is available in the Crocker Park garages.
