Social Capital Foundation Renews $20,000 Grant for a Second Year to Support Leadership & Entrepreneurship Incubator

The Social Capital Foundation has renewed its commitment to support Asante Africa Foundation’s Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator (LEI) program with an annual $20,000 matching grant to double donations collected over the next two years.

Oakland, CA, June 18, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Social Capital Foundation has renewed its commitment to support Asante Africa Foundation’s Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator (LEI) program with an annual $20,000 matching grant to double donations collected over the next two years.

Last year, the SCP announced its partnership with Asante Africa Foundation to support education and leadership development programs in East Africa. Since 2010, over 500 youth and teachers have participated in the annual weeklong intensive program, which provides them with the necessary leadership and career skills they need to create a successful future.

Both global organizations recognize that the value of education is naught without life skills and the ability to apply knowledge beyond the classroom.

“The Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator addresses needs beyond academics. As these young people finish school, they must have the leadership and life skills to prepare for successful careers and create positive change in their communities. ” – Erna Grasz, Founder & CEO, Asante Africa Foundation

The Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator is a catalyst that inspires participants to create their own personal and professional development plans. Vulnerable youth ages 15-21 from deeply rural areas of Kenya and Tanzania convene for the annual seminar, followed throughout the year with local individual and group coaching. They work with their peers across borders to learn from local educators, business owners and peer leaders about personal leadership and development, respecting their bodies, careers, money management, entrepreneurship and global citizenship. Alumni return in successive years as team leaders and facilitators. They leave with defined dreams and plans to achieve them, plans to “pay it forward” by giving back in their home communities, and the confidence to work with their peers and elders to create positive change.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Asante Africa Foundation’s Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator program for a second year. This is an incredible program that truly empowers the youth in East Africa by providing them with leadership and life skills that will be applicable at any age. We at the SCF have seen first hand exactly how the LEI program gives back to the local community and we’re honored to be part of the program.” – Laura DeVere, Founder and Director, Social Capital Foundation

The program’s impact is amplified by the projects participants initiate to pay it forward, sharing the knowledge they have gained. By starting their own businesses, school-based clubs, community-based organizations and NGOs, over 75,000 lives have been impacted to date. The LEI program is on track to impact 500,000 lives by 2020.
