Norfolk, VA, June 14, 2015 --(PR.com
)-- Geeks with Benefits, a charitable organization based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, has announced the date for the 2015 Can’t Stop the Serenity event, The Big Damn Shindig 6. The event is in its 6th year in Hampton Roads, and raises donations for Equality Now, Samaritan House, and The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.
On June 27 at 12 noon at the Naro Expanded Cinema, The Big Damn Shindig will celebrate its 6th year of bringing together Hampton Roads area geeks and raising funds for very worthy local and international causes. Geeks with Benefits President, Shane McNulty, is excited about the passion he sees in the geek community. “If you’re looking for a group of people who really want to do good in the world, this is it. I’m so lucky to have a chance to meet and work with people who truly want to put aside their own needs to support people in our community. Of course, having the opportunity to show a great movie like Serenity doesn’t hurt at all!”
Geeks with Benefits broke an attendance and fundraising record in 2014 with The Big Damn Shindig 5, and hopes are high for the June 27, 2015 event. The 2015 Big Damn Shindig (#2015bds) will feature Geek Team Trivia for the first time, with a first prize of $200 donated by Atlantis Games and Comics. Other event sponsors include Dog-n-Burger, Skinny Dip, YNot Italian and Therefore I Geek. “It’s very exciting to see local vendors open their hearts to support charities like Samaritan House. We are so fortunate to have the business community that we do in Ghent,” said McNulty.
While it’s chic to be geek, Geeks with Benefits want to take it one step further – there’s no community more likely to save the world than a community of geeks! Events are planned for the remainder of 2015 which will foster inclusivity and support for those who need it. For more information, the website geekswithbenefits.org will be updated to reflect upcoming events.
