)-- The Gateway Family YMCA celebrated the official Grand Opening of the Rahway Branch with a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 8, 2015. Located at 1564 Irving Street, the Y showcased the newly completed $3.4 million, 16,938 square foot renovation project to the community.
“We are all here today because we believe in the mission of the YMCA,” stated Congressman Donald M. Payne Jr during the ceremony. Speakers included Krystal R. Canady, CEO, Joseph R. Venezia, President, Board of Directors, Pastor Erin Hayes, First Presbyterian Church of Rahway, Rodger D. Koerber, Rahway Branch Executive Director, Lara Kennedy, Arts Director, Congressman Donald M. Payne Jr., Bruce H. Bergen Esq., Union County Freeholder Vice Chairman, Mayor Samson D. Steinman, City of Rahway, Melynda A. Mileski, EVP/COO and Dennis J. McNany, SVP/Chief Financial and Grants Officer, The Gateway Family YMCA.
The Gateway Family YMCA is a cause driven community organization dedicated to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The expansion of the Rahway Branch will enable the Y to provide additional services to impact more members of the local community. “We believe it is our social responsibility to provide our members opportunities to come together for the greater good of our communities,” stated Joseph R. Venezia.
Since 1900, The Gateway Family YMCA has served Eastern Union County and Northern Middlesex County providing programs such as swimming, basketball, housing, child care, Diabetes Prevention, Early Learning Readiness, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA and summer camp. “At The Gateway Family YMCA, we work hard every day to create a lasting impact in the communities we serve,” stated Melynda A. Mileski, EVP/COO. “The renovation of the Rahway Branch has provided us a unique opportunity to expand our services, increase our focus on the arts and create a partnership with local artists in the community.”
“We have made a commitment to our neighbors in Rahway,” stated Krystal R. Canady, CEO. “As a charity, we are dedicated to providing support to everyone. Our association provides over a half million dollars annually in financial assistance to support children and families that need our help.” Renovations at the Rahway Branch include the addition of three floors for expanded services, additional strength training, weight and cardiovascular equipment, Artist Lofts, dedicated arts programs and countless opportunities to impact youth, adults, seniors and families.
