The Unique Group Weighs in on Uniform Changes for College Football Teams

Toronto, Canada, September 11, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Unique Group (www.TheUniqueGroup.com), a one-stop custom brand labelling and packaging solution, is weighing in on changes to uniforms for five college football teams.

The start of the U.S. college football season is approaching. And every year, a handful of teams go through uniform changes either because of changes in sponsorships or because it’s believed to be time for a fresh look. This year, 14 teams in the “Power Five”—the five major conferences of the NCAA—will see changes made to their on-field attire, both for the entire season and just for special events. “College football is huge in the States, involving 80,000-seat stadiums being filled to watch players who aren’t even professionals yet. That means it’s a massive market, and so are the uniforms,” says Asher Lichtman, vice president of sales and marketing at The Unique Group. “And college fans tend to be more obsessive over their teams, so a jersey change is actually a really big deal.”

Teams undergoing uniform changes include the Tennessee Volunteers, North Carolina Tar Heels, Texas Christian (TCU) Horned Frogs, Miami Hurricanes, Colorado Buffalos, and UCLA Bruins, among others. Many of these teams are sponsored by the likes of Nike and Adidas, with black and dark grey appearing to be the colours that factor into the changes most prominently, particularly with the alternate uniforms.

“These teams realize that their uniforms are a crucial factor to their product branding. But regardless of whether the black/grey focus is a trend or there’s something more behind it, this year’s crop of new uniforms looks amazing overall,” Lichtman concludes. “Players take so much pride in their uniforms, so it’s hard to overstate just what it means for them to put them on every game day.”
