Pacific University College of Optometry Welcomes Prominent Biostatistician and Professor

Forest Grove, OR, December 11, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Pacific University College of Optometry (Pacific Optometry) today announced that Dr. John Hayes, a prominent biostatistician, has joined the College’s faculty as associate professor, responsible for facilitating research through experimental design and statistical support.

“Having a professor and biostatistician of Dr. John Hayes’ caliber immensely benefits Pacific Optometry’s faculty and students,” says Dr. Jim Sheedy, dean of the college. “His depth of research analysis and remarkable academic work will serve as key contributors to the College’s growth in the optometric research arena.”

In his role at Pacific, Dr. Hayes will teach the course, Evidence Based Medicine, developed for undergraduate optometry students to acquire the fundamentals of research design and statistics, enabling them to better analyze the requisite literature. He will also contribute to a public health course, teach a master’s level course on research methods, and provide technical guidance to student research activities.

In addition to teaching the series of related research courses, Dr. Hayes will assist the optometry faculty in the design and analysis of research projects that advance the science and clinical practice of vision performance. Through individual and group meetings, Dr. Hayes will collaborate with the faculty to integrate design considerations into further analysis on testing various theories across all aspects of vision science.

Dr. Hayes has nearly 40 years of experience in psychology, preventative medicine and biostatistics research. Prior to joining Pacific, he was senior research consulting statistician at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH, as well as clinical instructor in the Department of Pediatrics at Ohio State University, where he spent the majority of his distinguished career. Dr. Hayes earned his B.A. in Psychology from the College of Wooster in Wooster, OH. He also earned an M.A. in Psychology and Ph.D. in Preventative Medicine, both from Ohio State University, Columbus, OH.
