Skyton Group to "Break the Shelter Cycle" for Homeless NYC Residents

High-end brokerage looking to offer better rental housing options for tenants and landlords alike.

New York, NY, September 23, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Skyton Group LLC, a self-proclaimed “white glove” real estate service provider, wants to change the way New York City accommodates its shelter residents. Too often, the public dismisses shelter residents as drifters or transients. In reality, New York’s shelters are occupied by people from all walks of life, including: military veterans, fixed-income seniors, working-class individuals, and those with disabilities.

The ever-rising costs of living in New York mean that these facilities aren’t just populated by those living below the poverty line. In fact, many shelters house people who make up to $50,000 per year, including City employees.

“Most real estate brokers often choose to not work with shelter clients,” says Mira Bayonne, Co-founder of Skyton Group. “As a result, these residents remain in shelter facilities, or on the streets; stuck in a repeating pattern of abandonment. We want to break this cycle and effectively re-integrate these residents into the private-living community, where their dignity and will to contribute back to the community can be restored.”

Through its new affordable housing department, Skyton Group is working with city shelters to find affordable room and apartment rentals for shelter clients, while providing all clients top-tier, white glove service, usually reserved only for high-end clients.

Through a city voucher program, clients would receive rental assistance from a range of government-funded programs, including room and apartment benefits via CITYFEPS and LINC.

Tenants aren’t the only ones who benefit from Skyton Group’s placement services. Landlords who participate in this service also enjoy secured rent payments from the City of New York, which will cover anywhere from 70-100% of the monthly rent. Additionally, they may receive up to a $2,000 bonus for submitting a room or apartment, and up to four months’ rent, up front, on select placements.

“These programs can save property owners thousands of dollars in lost rental and occupancy revenue,” Bayonne continued. “Accompanied with the federal and state tax benefits of moving a tenant out of shelter housing, landlords stand to receive more secure and consistent revenue, without the concern of unexpected losses.”
