Philadelphia Tax Attorney Discusses State Tax Issues at ABA Meeting

Chamberlain Hrdlicka lawyer Stewart M. Weintraub presented programs on state tax issues at American Bar Association Tax Section’s Fall 2015 Meeting.

Philadelphia, PA, October 01, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Philadelphia state and local tax attorney Stewart M. Weintraub of the national law firm Chamberlain Hrdlicka recently spoke as part of state tax related programs for the American Bar Association Tax Section’s 2015 Joint Fall CLE Meeting.

Weintraub recently was a panelist for a presentation entitled “State Income, Double Taxation, and Tax Discrimination in the Post-Wynne World,” held Sept. 17 as a part of a program for the ABA Young Lawyers Forum.

The program discussed essential state tax concepts such as income at the state level, double taxation tax discrimination, and the dormant commerce clause, as well as insight into the Maryland v. Wynne decision and its implications for other taxes.

On Sept. 18, Weintraub also served on a panel for a program called “State Resident Tax Credits After the Supreme Court’s Wynne Decision,” before the State and Local Tax Committee of the ABA. The program outlined various situations that could give rise to tax refunds and other ways that the Wynne decision will impact the states and taxpayers.

Since being admitted to the Pennsylvania bar in 1971, Weintraub has focused his practice upon state and local taxation. From audits through trials and appeals to the appellate courts, Weintraub represents clients in all aspects of state and local tax compliance and litigation. His practice also includes helping clients plan and structure transactions so that all state and local tax obligations are minimized.

Weintraub began his career with the City of Philadelphia Law Department where he rose to be chief of tax litigation and where he served as chief counsel of former Mayor William Green’s Tax Reform Commission. In 2003, Weintraub was appointed to serve as a member of a new voter-approved Tax Reform Commission. He also has held leadership positions for the American Bar Association and the Philadelphia Bar Association and has chaired or co-chaired the state and local tax committee for the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce since 1983. Now in private practice, Weintraub has been a shareholder at Chamberlain Hrdlicka since 2010.

In 2015, he was named a Best Lawyer for the twelfth consecutive year by The Best Lawyers in America®, one of the legal profession’s oldest and most respected peer-review publications. Weintraub lives in Cherry Hill, N.J.
