Zonta Douglas County Launches Domestic Violence Awareness Program

Zoe posters are being put up around the county to increase awareness of resources available to those who are victims of domestic violence.

Castle Rock, CO, October 17, 2015 --(PR.com)-- A cartoon woman named Zoe is the focal point for new domestic violence awareness posters being put up all around Douglas County.

“Zoe” was created by Sharon Cooper, a member of Zonta Douglas County, a women’s service organization that works to improve the lives of women and children. The posters direct people who need help to call 911 if they are in danger, or call the Crisis Center (303-688-8484) to arrange for safety. People may also visit www.thecrisiscenter.org for other resources.

The posters are being put up locally in advance of Zonta International’s campaign that kicks off Nov. 25, “Zonta says ‘no’ to violence against women and 16 days of activism.”

“Our posters were designed to create awareness of domestic violence and provide a resource for help,” says Judy Nesavich, Zonta Douglas County President. “If you know someone who may be the victim of domestic violence, make sure they know where to go to get help. If businesses want posters to put up in their locations, please contact us.”

In addition to conducting awareness programs, Zonta Douglas County hosts Trivia Night to raise funds for local and regional nonprofits and for a lucky student heading off to college. During the past 11 years, Zonta Douglas County has donated more than $85,000 to local charities, and gave more than $12,000 in scholarships to local high school seniors. Members also donated more than 900 hours of time to local nonprofits last year alone.

“Trivia is a fun way to raise money to help women and children in our community,” Nesavich explains. Sponsorships are available for the April 9, 2016 Trivia Night and team registration will open Nov. 1 at www.zontadouglascounty.org. For more information, call 303-691-0126.
