Close to 30 Companies Hiring 350+ Positions at Marlborough Job Fair

Marlborough gains 6,000 jobs, unemployment falls 35% since 2012.

Marlborough, MA, November 01, 2015 --(PR.com)-- More than 350 job openings at 29 local companies were on offer at the fourth annual Marlborough Works! Job Fair held at the Courtyard by Marriott last Tuesday. The free event, organized by the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), in conjunction with Employment and Training Resources (ETR), is part of the city’s annual initiative to increase local employment.

Marlborough has gained close to 6,000 new jobs since the initiative launched in 2012. New commercial move-ins and expansions—mostly from the biotech, high tech and manufacturing industries—have brought more than 5,000 new jobs to the city, with the rest coming from organic growth within the business community.

Unemployment in Marlborough fell by 35% during the same period, from 5.7% in August 2012 to 3.7% in August 2015, according to the latest figures from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The current rate is 21% and 27% lower than the Commonwealth and national averages respectively.

For the first time in the job fair’s history, representatives from big Marlborough employers, including GE Healthcare, Boston Scientific, DCU and the TJX Cos., were placed in a separate conference room, in order to accommodate the influx of jobseekers looking to meet them. More than twenty other local companies of various sizes and from multiple industries also showcased their openings at the venue’s main hall.

“This event has consistently grown in size and scope,” said MEDC Executive Director Tim Cummings. “We are proud to see the increasing number of large employers that continue to join our business community, and to say that this annual job fair has most certainly helped to place many of our local residents into those companies. Our dwindling unemployment rate is a clear indication of Marlborough’s booming local economy.”
