Friends of Karen to Deliver Gifts (and Smiles) to Children with Cancer

Friends of Karen, a children's charity, needs volunteers to bring the holiday season to local families caring for a child with cancer or another life-threatening illness. "We want them to have joyful memories, even in the midst of illness."

North Salem, NY, November 13, 2015 --(PR.com)-- “Thank you for making our holiday season so magical this year. You have touched our lives in a way that I cannot fully express in words.”

Friends of Karen, a children’s charity, received this note from the mother of a 4-year-old girl battling cancer. Every day, Friends of Karen is a lifeline for hundreds of Tri-State families caring for a child with cancer or another life-threatening illness, providing the emotional, financial and practical support they so desperately need to cope with the ordeal of fighting for their child’s life.

Their “Holiday Adopt-A-Family” program makes sure each Friends of Karen sick child as well as his or her well siblings has something to smile about. But they need your help to spread the holiday spirit to over 950 children – perhaps some who are right in your own community.

“Each of our children sends us their wish list, and we match each child with a kind-hearted ‘elf’ who purchases one or more of the items on the list,” says Denise Tredwell, the charity’s Volunteer Coordinator. “Every child looks forward to the holidays, but when parents are caring for a child with a life-threatening illness, there’s no time for shopping or even thinking about gifts. We want them to have joyful memories, even in the midst of illness.”

You can be the one who creates those memories. Friends of Karen needs your help to make sure there are gifts for every child. Please contact DeniseTredwell@friendsofkaren.org or call her at (914) 617-4052 by Dec. 1. If you don’t have time to shop, no worries: you can let Denise know and Friends of Karen will do the shopping for you.

What better way to celebrate the holiday spirit than by giving to a child?
