Dr. Charles Hamner Named to 2008 Most Influential Persons List

Research Triangle Park, NC, December 18, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences (www.thehamner.org), an independent, nonprofit organization that offers an open, collaborative and cross-disciplinary approach to translational biomedical research, has announced that Dr. Charles Hamner, chairman of the board of directors at The Hamner, has been named to the 2008 list of the 25 Most Influential People in the Southeast Technology Community by TechJournal South. Dr. Hamner, along with 24 other esteemed individuals, was recognized in the publication’s November issue.

Chosen for the contributions he has made to the biotech industry throughout the Southeast, Dr. Hamner has been instrumental in transforming North Carolina into a booming biotechnology state. Today, North Carolina ranks among the nation’s top five biotechnology states and third in the number of biotechnology companies, according to Ernst and Young's 2006 industry survey.

About Dr. Charles Hamner:
Charles E. Hamner, D.V.M., Ph.D. is chairman of the board of directors at The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences, located in Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina. Dr. Hamner is well-known for his pivotal role in propelling North Carolina and the RTP to preeminence within the biosciences industry. He is a biotechnology pioneer whose accomplishments have brought a major new industry to the state. After leading the North Carolina Biotechnology Center for 14 years, Dr. Hamner retired on March 31, 2002. Throughout his research career, Dr. Hamner has authored more than 50 scientific publications, co-authored chapters in 12 books on reproductive physiology and biochemistry, and edited two editions of Drug Development. Dr. Hamner maintains membership in the following professional societies: American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Veterinary Medical Association, Biotechnology Industry Organization, Drug Information Association, FASEB, American Physiological Society and Society for the Study of Fertility.
