Richard J. O’Brien Foundation Presents $25,000 to New Interdisciplinary School (NIS)

Foundation Awards Donation to Yaphank Early Childhood Learning Center for Developmentally Delayed and Typically Developing Children

Yaphank, NY, February 19, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The New Interdisciplinary School (NIS), an innovative early childhood learning center located in Yaphank, NY, was once again awarded $25,000 by the Richard J. O’Brien Foundation on February 11, 2016. This donation was made possible through funding received at the Foundation’s fifth annual golf outing, which took place on September 21, 2015 at the Southward Ho Country Club in Bay Shore.

“NIS is excited to have secured funding to implement a therapeutic safety swim program for our preschoolers with special needs. We plan to partner with the Patchogue Y to teach select students the skills they'll need throughout life to stay safe near water while strengthening their muscle tone, confidence, and social skills. We hope the children will learn the fundamentals of swimming and water safety in an environment that fosters acceptance and personal growth,” said Susan Cali, NIS Director of Development.

The Richard J. O’Brien Foundation is dedicated to honoring the memory of its namesake, who was very active in many non-profit organizations across Long Island. Started by O’Brien’s family and friends, the Foundation, an all-volunteer association, supports charities focusing on children in need of special care and bereavement counseling.
