)-- Company founders and sisters, Lori Vanhille and Sandy Reedy wanted to find a way to share their “keep your chin up” attitude with others and to start their own business together. While training for a marathon, Vanhille had her light bulb moment of how to do just that: have their plain jane workout shirts imprinted with sayings or mottos that would make someone smile or give them a little encouragement to make it through their day. “I would run for miles and pass so many people and just want to say, “smile” or “have faith”, but I either didn’t have the nerve or the energy” says Vanhille. When her sister Sandy was looking for a career change a few years later, Vanhille told her about her idea of athletic type shirts with a purpose other than keeping you cool and dry. Reedy, an avid runner herself, instantly loved the idea.
Within two months the company was off the ground and running, no pun intended. My Mottoz offers men’s and women’s coolFit ™ shirts in various styles and colors and a broad list of sayings to choose from. Secular and spiritual in nature, their list of mottos is growing as fast as their business start-up. Customers can submit their personal mottos online and if they receive enough similar suggestions, they’ll add it to their collection. “This is only the tip of the iceberg for My Mottoz” explains Reedy. “We plan on expanding our line over the next three years to include youth size tops, winter wear and various athletic related accessories. We could all use a little pep talk now and then, so why not take advantage of the empty space?”
