UVA Student Wins $5000 Study Abroad Scholarship

University of Virginia student wins a $5000 study abroad scholarship from The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, an honor society inviting freshmen and sophomores.

Washington, DC, January 06, 2008 --(PR.com)-- UVA student Dana Hecht has been awarded The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) Scholar Abroad Scholarship for the spring semester. Hecht will be participating in an international honors health program, which will take her to Switzerland, India, China and South Africa.

“Dana has an excellent academic record and we applaud her hard work,” said Steve Loflin, NSCS’ Executive Director. “We are proud to help her represent her school community, the Society and the United States, overseas.”

The Scholar Abroad Scholarship is presented to one outstanding NSCS member each semester to assist the student with his/her study abroad experience. NSCS gives $5,000 in the spring and fall semesters, and $2,500 in the summer.

“NSCS recognizes that studying abroad contributes significantly to a college student’s education,” Loflin said. “Going abroad helps to increase one's standing not only personally but socially, educationally and professionally.”
