Real Estate Company Adds Unique Ingredients and Tosses Up an Innovative Brand Marketing Campaign

In what is one of the more unusual marketing promotions in recent history, a salad shop and a real estate brokerage have teamed up to sell homes and salads.

“It seemed like a natural fit,” says John Wareck, Broker and Co-Owner of Real Living Wareck D’Ostilio. “Our office is immediately next door to the Little Salad Shop and across from Yale University’s freshman campus. Students and visitors love their salads, and people love our Realtors, so why not cross-promote? Fresh ingredients combined with a fresh approach to real estate.”

"Both of our storefronts have a lot of walk-in traffic," says Robert Klinger, owner of The Little Salad Shop at 45 High Street. “Their Realtors are big customers. They do a lot of business and we do a lot of business so we decided to think up a promotion together.”

The "salad epiphany" includes the Realtor's own concoction of salad fixings with the whimsy of a great marketing/branding ingredient. Out of this thinking the “Realtor of the Month Salad” was born.

Every month a Real Living Wareck D’Ostilio Realtor offers up their favorite salad to be featured on 24” by 36” posters in each of the two Little Salad Shop locations. The promotion will continue through August. Five of the agency’s forty-three Realtors will have the opportunity to be featured. Ross Cotjanle was the first pick since he won a national award from Real Living Real Estate for outstanding customer service (360 Service). The realty firm plans on have an internal competition to select the next four salad makers.

“I think the Little Salad Shop is selling more salads than we are selling homes out of this promotion,” Wareck says. "But we like the promotion, we love the salads, and we really enjoy thinking up 'outside the box’ marketing."
