STR: Dublin Hotels Score Big with Final Round of RBS 6 Nations Rugby Tournament

STR releases hotel performance results relative to the RBS 6 Nations rugby tournament.

London, United Kingdom, April 09, 2016 --(PR.com)-- According to daily data from STR, the hotel industry in Dublin, Ireland, reported the largest impact among the three markets to host a RBS 6 Nations final-round match on 19 March 2016. Hotels in Cardiff, Wales, and Paris, France, also saw performance increases associated with the rugby tournament.

Dublin
Thanks to a combination of St. Patrick’s Day and RBS 6 Nations rugby, Dublin saw absolute occupancy eclipse 93.0% on both Thursday and Friday, 17-18 March. On Saturday, 19 March, the day of the match between Ireland and Scotland, occupancy spiked to 96.4%. The average Saturday occupancy in Dublin during the past 12 full months was 89.6%.

Dublin’s average daily rate (ADR) for 19 March was EUR178.07, nearly EUR47.00 higher than the Saturday average during the previous 12 months (EUR131.50).

As a result, revenue per available room (RevPAR) in the market was EUR171.63, more than EUR53.00 higher than the Saturday average (EUR117.84) from March 2015 to February 2016.

Cardiff
While Cardiff’s occupancy for 19 March (88.6%) fell in line with the average from the past 12 months (91.0%), ADR for the day (EUR181.00) was significantly higher than the past 12 months’ average (EUR128.98). RevPAR for 19 March was EUR160.41 or nearly EUR43.00 more than the recent Saturday average (EUR117.42).

Paris
Since the November terrorist attacks in Paris, Saturdays have produced lower-than-usual hotel performance results. However, with increases in both occupancy and ADR, Paris’ RevPAR for 19 March increased 12.0% in year-over-year comparisons to EUR251.63.
