)-- Nick Hernandez, CEO at ABISA, delivered a presentation last week on the topic of telemedicine at the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs (SoPE). The meeting was held at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Physicians gathered to connect and collaborate around driving innovations in healthcare.
The mission of SoPE is to help biomedical and healthcare entrepreneurs get their ideas, discoveries, and inventions to the market by providing them with education, connections, and support. “There is no crystal ball as to how U.S. healthcare reform will shake out. I believe that our entrepreneurial society which includes outstanding physicians and great business leaders will prevail and patients will be the benefactors, providing all continue to put the patient first,” says Hernandez.
One of the tenants of the Affordable Care Act was to provide access to care for all Americans. To that end, telemedicine is a piece of the healthcare transformation and the government is slowly helping with telehealth initiatives.
In the presentation delivered by Hernandez, he noted that while telemedicine is already available to patients nationwide, programs vary significantly in their objectives, scope, and complexity. “Not all telemedicine programs are designed the same or offer the same level of service. Additionally, telemedicine needs are different for solo and small group practices than for hospitals and healthcare systems.”
