)-- The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences (www.thehamner.org) has announced that BioMedomics has joined The Hamner Accelerator for Translational Bioscience. The accelerator program provides an opportunity for leaders of emerging companies to access resources at The Hamner while also partnering on research projects and grant funding. To support companies like BioMedomics, The Hamner collaborates with the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, the Council for Entrepreneurial Development, university business schools and other entrepreneurial programs to facilitate commercialization of new technologies.
BioMedomics is a privately-held bioscience and medical device company with facilities in RTP that develops and sells advanced research and clinical reagents, assay instruments and data processing tools. The company’s commercial products and services meet the needs of a broad range of biomedical applications related to drug discovery and development, as well as clinical diagnostics. The firm, which was started with a $25,000 North Carolina Biotechnology loan, received a $100,000 Phase I Small Business Innovation Research grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
“We are pleased to announce that BioMedomics has joined our accelerator program,” said Rick Williams, chief business officer at The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences. “CEO Frank Wang is a well-respected entrepreneurial scientist who has previously been involved in building successful life-science businesses. Being able to work side by side with our scientists to develop innovations was a major reason Frank chose The Hamner’s accelerator as the headquarters for his new company.”
“We are very pleased to become the first company to partner with The Hamner Accelerator for Translational Bioscience,” said Dr. Frank Wang, CEO and president of BioMedomics. “We look forward to interacting with The Hamner’s world class scientists and using their outstanding research facilities. Our business in RNAi research, cell assay systems, preclinical assay developments and clinical diagnostics development is rapidly growing. By joining the accelerator, we will be able to bring more innovative products, technologies and services into the marketplace. We are very excited about our collaboration with The Hamner Institutes.”
