Preparing Vendors for MU3 with FHIR® and the Internet of Interoperable Things™

Grand Blanc, MI, April 24, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Carefluence introduces the Internet of Interoperable Things (IOIT). IOIT aids electronic health record vendors (EHR) in preparation for Meaningful Use Stage 3 (MU3) and provides contextually meaningful data sharing around any healthcare system or medical device.

Defining the Internet of Interoperable Things

IOIT is Carefluence’s cloud computing software technology providing integration and sharing of information received or transmitted in different data formats, from different software systems, and/or different devices through secure internet connectivity. IOIT allows Carefluence to enhance the efficiency of consulting services in development, customization and integration of healthcare software applications, as well as, data exchange across dissimilar systems, devices, and data formats.

The Internet of Interoperable Things Technology

The core strategy of IOIT is the Carefluence OpenAPI, a production ready platform and a living example of a complete Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) implementation. Carefluence successfully adopted the FHIR standard within one year to enable quicker development and implementation of the IOIT. “The goal [of Carefluence] has always been to transcend the perceived barriers of interoperability and demonstrate that a true commitment to technology can further the goals comprehensive data sharing for better patient health,” states Carefluence Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, Lloyd Williams.

“The Carefluence OpenAPI platform is an essential actor in the middle of the Internet of Interoperable Things,” explains Carefluence Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Aditya Ayyagari, “Besides supporting backward compatibility with HL7 V2 and CCDA formats, Carefluence utilizes IOIT to normalize all standards as appropriate FHIR resources, bringing simplicity and flexibility to the Carefluence platform and IOIT.”

Vendor Benefits

New requirements for interoperability are anticipated in upcoming MU3 certification. Ayyagari comments on the capability of IOIT stating, “Now EHRs can use the Carefluence platform for anticipated Stage 3 of Meaningful Use requirements and [Independent Software Vendors] can develop Health IT applications with Carefluence using the SMART on FHIR paradigm.” For EHR vendors, Carefluence’s IOIT provides tools to test current interoperability capabilities against MU3 requirements or the ability to connect to the Carefluence platform for compliance with MU3 standard requirements. EHR vendors connected with the Carefluence platform enhance physician offerings with SMART on FHIR applications and Carefluence custom created applications that allow physicians to view and update data in correspondence with the EHR.
