Bronx, NY, April 28, 2016 --(PR.com
)-- Since its inception at Hostos Community College Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development on May 16, 2015, Underneath the Accent of My Skin has become a Community Create Tank for our immigrants in The Bronx. This multidisciplinary and creative writing project explores the nuances of identity through the creative process, and is proud to be a program ambassador for BRONX:AFRICA, an exhibit that features contemporary art across disciplines, along with collateral events around the Bronx and beyond.
In The Bronx Council on the Arts’ own words, “our borough is home to major and still growing populations from various countries in Africa. Their vital presence influences and transforms our city. Bronx:Africa is a multi-disciplinary exploration of the art, expressions and influences of African cultures, and their impact on the arts as nationals mix and infuse. Bronx:Africa celebrates the influence of contemporary African cultures that strengthens and connects us with the many peoples of African descent, the diaspora, mixed heritage and migration-dispersion that call the Bronx home.”
Cafe Con Leche Muses for Bronx:Africa is a collective reading and open mic created by the members of Underneath the Accent of My Skin to celebrate the roots and permanent presence of African ancestors in our mixed heritage. This event is sponsored by GNote Entertainment, hosted by Hostos Community College Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development, and curated by artist, writer and educator, Orlando Ferrand.
